This is almost the general trend on most websites in Spain, where there are nearly 2 million active domains. On TV and the internet, magical solutions are sold to create your own website, but entrepreneurs often face the reality that having a beautiful page is not enough. Without visitors, your investment will be useless.

We are talking about positioning a website, of course. About being found by your target customer—the one looking for the products and services you offer.

Not for Everyone

It is true that not every business faces this problem. A restaurant does not need to be ranked beyond its name. This occurs with almost all businesses that only offer services at their physical location, where a good location, good service, social media, directories, and word-of-mouth bring enough business to not require online positioning. This is the case, for example, with restaurants, bars, and hair salons.

If It’s for You, You Must Do It

The situation is very different for online stores, businesses that provide services at clients’ locations, or those that can offer services from their office, daycare centers, training centers, clinics of all kinds, etc.

If you miss the opportunity, your competition will capture your closest target audience.

How to Position a Business Online?

  • SEO Positioning: The goal is to be found when users search for your services, not when they search for you. This will be very difficult if your website was created using one of those “magical solutions” we mentioned, unless you work with a specialized agency. I find it funny when I see ads on TV explaining that an advisor teaches you to upload a photo but doesn’t mention that size and weight are important for positioning. A beautiful website with no visitors beyond those who know you or search for you directly.
From the start, you should work with a professional agency that not only builds your website but also optimizes it for positioning. One of the most important factors is speed. If your website is not fast, it will be very difficult to convert and rank.
You must understand that 70% of traffic is mobile, and if your website isn’t very fast (in an era where we want everything instantly, thanks to Amazon), you will lose many users before the content loads. Google wants users to find what they are looking for to continue using it. If visitors leave because your website is slow, Google will stop recommending you if it ever did.

My recommendation: Don’t waste any more time. Let us help you with a free website audit so you know your current position and the steps you need to take to outrank your competition.
  • Online Advertising: Whether on social media, Google (SEM), or any other digital medium, you can reach users by paying for clicks, but ATTENTION! We have the same problem. If our website is slow or the purchase process isn’t optimized, users will leave, and we will be paying for very low conversion rates.
  • Google My Business: For daycares, clinics, hair salons, and any wellness or health-related business, distance is a key factor, so ranking well on Google Maps is essential. Having a complete profile with many positive reviews, images of the business and team (to make it more human), and regularly posting content is crucial for any local business.

Conclusion

These are just some key points about online positioning. You can also position yourself locally on social media, with a billboard, or advertising on radio or buses.

There are many ways, but remember your website is your home, and it must be fast, pleasant, have a content marketing strategy, be optimized for Google, and build enough credibility and trust to overcome objections that everyone has when buying or requesting information from someone they don’t know.

Surround yourself with good professionals. You can’t do everything, and you should focus your efforts on what you do best—in your core business.
