What is Google Ads?

Previously called Google AdWords, it is Google’s digital advertising platform used by millions of advertisers worldwide. With this tool, you can increase website traffic, generate leads, sell products (online stores), or boost brand image (branding). There are several types of ads in Google Ads, and you can choose to pay for clicks, impressions, or conversions in some cases.

Types of Google Ads Ads

Google Ads Search Campaigns

Search campaigns are the most common and effective way to advertise on Google Ads. Why? They are the type of campaigns where we show ads to users who are interested in our products, as they have made a search with that keyword. We use different search terms related to your business and try to exclude those that may cause confusion or attract uninterested traffic.

For Google Ads search campaigns, only adaptable ads can be used, as the standard ads will disappear. This format includes multiple titles and descriptions, a visual URL showing the domain we are reaching, and various ad extensions like promotions, service lists, prices, phone numbers… On mobile devices, a highlighted image is now shown alongside the ad text.

A maximum of 7 ads can appear in the Google search engine, with 4 at the top and 3 at the bottom.

There are dynamic ads, which are automatically generated depending on the user’s search and the destination page.

In these campaigns, you pay for each click received on the ad, through a bidding system.

Google Shopping Campaigns

Google Shopping campaigns are the best option for an ecommerce that sells any of the permitted types of products. In these campaigns, services or intangible products, such as vehicles or real estate, cannot be promoted.

Shopping ads are shown in the Google search engine above traditional text ads. Depending on the location and device, a different number of ads may appear, and even several from the same store if there are different variants of the same product.

Users who make the search can get detailed information about the product you sell, such as a photo, title, price, or store name. You can highlight the products you want from your store.

Google decides, based on our products and bid, for which search we will appear, so there is no need to specify keywords.

Display Campaigns

Display campaigns contain ads that are a mix of image or video and text. This network will help you find your target audience. Thanks to different targeting options, users can see your message in a strategic way at the right place and time.

One of the advantages of these campaigns is the variety of ad formats that can be created, so it is advisable to write multiple titles, descriptions, and images in the platform. You usually pay per click, although you can also pay for impressions or conversions.

There are three types of display campaigns:

  • Standard: The advertiser decides the targeting, bids, budgets, and ad types for the campaigns.
  • Smart: Google automatically configures the campaigns, and this option can be recommended when it’s a known brand with a broad history of campaigns.
  • Discovery: These are campaigns with more attractive ads, shown in the main YouTube feed and Gmail.

Video Campaigns

In these campaigns, videos that we have previously uploaded to YouTube are promoted. Video ads can appear as promoted on this network alongside other videos, on YouTube within other videos (at the beginning or during the video), or on websites that display YouTube content.

There are different ad formats depending on where they will appear. The cost of these ads is usually per video view. A view is considered when it lasts more than 30 seconds.

Local Campaigns

Local campaign ads are shown when the user makes a search on Google Maps, as the goal is to drive traffic to physical stores or locations. An example is a restaurant. They are shown in a specific geographic area that is manually configured.

Bidding is done by conversion, which can be store visits, phone clicks, or directions to the business.

Mobile App Campaigns

In these campaigns, different types of ads are created to advertise mobile apps on Google search, Display Network, Google Play Store, and YouTube. You can bid for installation, interaction, or conversion. With these ads, you can promote a mobile app for later download. It’s important to know that only Android mobile apps can be advertised.

To create these ads, you just need to provide the text, budget, and locations you want to reach.
